Q: What makes your dance photography unique?A: The moments in between. Those are the moments that I am aim to capture as I photograph the movement of a dancer. Those transitional movements are the ones that tell the story and share the most truth. I aim to capture joy, love and passion in the movement as I photograph dancers. As a dancer myself, I have a craving for the natural movements, the ones that just feel good when you do them. Many dance photographers and dancers focus on capturing the "tricks," the biggest jumps, highest kicks, or a pose showing flexibility. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing dancers show off their abilities. But what I love even more is capturing the truth, the transitional raw movement that we use to tell our story.

Q: What do you love about dance photography?

A: I love working with people who get me and who I truly understand and relate to. Being able to move with and guide my dancers through movement as I capture it with my camera brings me to a place of comfort and happiness.

more about heather's photography:

"I don't find my dance work traditional. I don't shoot in a photography studio, or on the street, generally. I take my camera to a theatre to utilize the stage lights and to create an amazing contrast. On the other hand, I also like shoot in natural light industrial spaces. It allows me to create something visually clean and simple."
